Complexity Science Seminar Series - Abstracts
Title: Power Management for Server Disks
Presenter: Dr. Anand Sivasubramanium Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, Penn State University Date and Time: Thursday, March 15, 2007, 4:30-5:30 PM Note: This particular seminar is jointly organized with Center for High End Computing Systems. Please note the date, time and location. Abstract: Data-centric services, such as transaction processing and search engines which sustain the needs of millions of users each day, rely heavily on the I/O subsystem for their storage and processing requirements. Technological improvements in hard disk drive densities and data rates have continued to fuel the successful deployment of these services. However, server storage systems consume a large amount of power, leading to higher operating costs, increased stresses on the power supply, detrimental environmental impacts and even restricts the ability to design higher performance disks. Power management is a challenging problem for these enterprise storage systems since we do not want to compromise on performance.Seminar Location: This joint seminar is held at: Virginia Tech, Corporate Research Center 2202 Kraft Drive, KWII Building Room 110, Back to: NDSSL Seminar Page |
