Abstract:
Standard mass-action models of disease dynamics are still widely used in theoretical epidemiology. These models assume homogeneous mixing which is rarely observed in real populations. In this talk I will show that using the basic reproduction number as a parameter it is possible to capture some of the effects of non-homogeneous mixing on disease spread and I will present some applications.
