Title: Simple Models for Epidemics in Networks
Presenter: Dr. Juan P. Aparicio Department of Science and Technology Universidad Metropolitana, San Juan, Puerto Rico Date and Time: Monday, October 30, 2006, 3:00-4:00PM Abstract: Standard mass-action models of disease dynamics are still widely used in theoretical epidemiology. These models assume homogeneous mixing which is rarely observed in real populations. In this talk I will show that using the basic reproduction number as a parameter it is possible to capture some of the effects of non-homogeneous mixing on disease spread and I will present some applications.Seminar Location: The seminars are held at: Virginia Tech, Corporate Research Center 1880 Pratt Drive, Building XV Seminar Room 2018, Second Floor Directions: Map (PDF) Back to: NDSSL Seminar Page |
