Title: Disease Dynamic Modeling on Emergent Networks

Presenter: Nina Fefferman, The Center for Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science (DIMACS), Rutgers University

Date and Time: Tuesday, November 06, 2007, 3:30-4:30PM

Abstract:

Epidemiological models often rely on underlying social interaction networks to direct the potential routes of infections disease transmission. These networks are usually imposed based on externally assumed or observed knowledge of particular systems. In many systems, however, the network structures are emergent system properties of the behaviors of the participating individuals. We'll discuss one potential computational framework for examining disease spread on these sorts of emergent networks. Additionally, we'll see how continuing social affiliation dynamics, rather than assuming static contact patterns can greatly affect the outcome of these disease models.
