Title: Using Autonomous Flight Vehicles for Control Volume Sampling

Presenter: Dr. Craig Woolsey, Virginia Tech

Date and Time: Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 3:30-4:30pm

Abstract:

The number and variety of military and scientific applications for autonomous flight vehicles is growing rapidly. One interesting class of applications is control volume sampling. In these applications, a team of autonomous flight vehicles is used to assess a phenomenon that is occurring within a sample volume. In many cases the phenomenon can be characterized by measuring the flux of related quantities or properties across the sample volume's boundary. This presentation will briefly describe some example applications within this class of sampling tasks and some related work on vehicle control and coordination for unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs).
